"goodly heritage, proud traditions, cherished memories"
In 1986, the Old Boys on the Scots College Board of Governors recognised the importance of preserving the historical records and memorabilia of the College. An Archivist, Paddianne Neely, was appointed, and a small room was designated to house the initial collection. Newsletters were sent out to the Scots College community, and display cases were created to showcase cherished mementos from College days.
Over the years, the collection has grown significantly, with donations ranging from school reports, photographs, correspondence, uniforms, trophies, and more. The Archivists have meticulously recorded and preserved over 100 years of records. The collection now includes a vast array of items, and the digitisation of photographs and other materials has been undertaken, stored in a digital heritage database.
The College's Coat of Arms and portraits of the distinguished Fergusson family adorn the Headmaster's reception area and the main foyer, respectively. The Tony Shelly Centre displays photographs of its opening, while the library commemorates the generosity of Mrs EK Alderson and Mr James Stellin Sr. The Mawson Foyer, named after Collegian Brig. JW Mawson, features his portrait along with portraits of former Headmasters.
The Archives have expanded from their humble beginnings and now have an office in the Shelly Centre, along with refurbished rooms in the roof of Gibb House for storage. The Archives attract visitors from all over, including Collegians, families, researchers, and historians, and continue to seek unique and special items of memorabilia from the College's history.
